Last month local Chesterfield businesses teamed up and set up ‘Be a Star and Support Independents’ - a campaign to encourage residents to support independent traders this Christmas.
Now, the campaigners have visited Santa Grotto to get their message across and encourage locals to put money directly into the town’s economy.

After a kind donation of paper stars from fellow independent business Paperstarlights, the idea to encourage people to ‘Be a star and support your independent businesses’ was born.
“We were delighted to hear that Santa ‘shops local’, we definitely have everything he might need for presents, food and even to get his beard trimmed! We had great fun visiting Santa in his grotto to share our Christmas Wish, for everyone in Chesterfield to ‘Be a Star and support local businesses’ a wish which, we’re delighted to say is already coming true!”
Currently 80 shops and traders across the town centre involved in the campaign are displaying second-hand star lanterns donated by Paper Starlights in their windows, so customers know that they are supporting local independents.
