Police issue update after reports of ‘suspicious’ man knocking on doors in Chesterfield to read meters

Officers from Staveley Safer Neighbourhood Police Team said the man started visiting houses on Norbriggs Road and Woodthorpe Road at around 2.20pm on March 9.
It is reported that the man, who was described as ‘suspicious’, claimed he was there to read electric meters but could not provide any proof of who he was.

Hide AdBut, police have since identified and spoken to the man about the day in question and in an update today, March 15, revealed that he was indeed a genuine meter reader.
Posting on Facebook, Staveley Police SNT: "We have completed our checks and can confirm that the male was a GENUINE meter reader, who was wearing the correct hi-viz uniform with the companies name and logo on and he has a valid ID card.”
