A Derbyshire road has reopened after a young cyclist was airlifted to hospital.

Officers earlier urged motorists to avoid the area after an incident ‘involving a young man and a bicycle’ on Nottingham Road, Somercotes, near Alfreton.

Derbyshire Constabulary tweeted at 5pm today: “Nottingham Road in Somercotes has now been reopened after an incident at around 1pm involving a young man and a bicycle.

The man was taken to hospital by air ambulance and our investigations into what happened are continuing.”
