The Conservative leader of Amber Valley Borough Council has blasted police bosses and firefighters after announcing the fifth council tax freeze in a row.

Councillor Stuart Bradford blamed the police and crime commissioner, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and Derbyshire County Council for not “making sufficient savings to prevent increases”.

He said this caused a collective hike of council tax of £26 per year for residents who live in a Band D property. Labour, which controls the county council and fire authority, blamed Government budget cuts for the decision to raise council tax by just under two per cent.
