LETTER: Gritting in Derbyshire was a job well done for the community
The gritting lorries were out in force several hours before the snow began last week and, despite everything grinding to a halt when three inches fell in a couple of hours every main route was running normal within about three hours.
One of the problems they faced was schools that opened then had to close due to the snowfall.

Hide AdHady School was one of those and, because parents were having difficulties getting down Hady Lane a snow plough and gritter were on scene within a few minutes.
Buses were sliding off the road everywhere and, rightfully so, they got priority for passenger safety.
Congratulations on a job well done for the community.
Graham Voss, Hady.
