Why National League clubs could be allowed to make five substitutions next season

Football lawmakers, The International Football Association Board (IFAB), has announced it will be up to each individual league to apply the rule.
Since the resumption of football teams have been able to make five substitutions at three different points during a game due to the busy fixture schedules and summer weather.

Hide AdIt was thought that this would be temporary and would revert back to the traditional three substitutions for the 2020/2021 campaign.
But IFAB has confirmed that it will allow leagues to continue with the five substitutes if they wish as they believe teams will experience another packed schedule.
“The recent review has shown that the reasons for the temporary amendment remain valid and the impact on player welfare is likely to continue into 2021 due to various factors,” IFAB said in a statement.
